Program Name:Tuesday Report - My Furry BFF

  • Introduction
This series explores different facets of humans' relationships with animals. While in the past, people used to keep animals for functional purposes such as guarding their house or as pets for leisure, today many foster a closer relationship with them, treating them like family members and even lifetime companions. In Singapore, many people’s attitude towards animals have also shifted as people have developed better awareness of related issues. More and more people here have started to care for animals not just as a pastime but also because they are concerned about animals' safety and well-being. People have also realised the benefits of living with animals, and how animals could enhance our quality of life. Episode 1 - Bonding This episode tells the story of a couple who set up a shelter for stray animals and then fell in love with each other. The second part of the episode tells the story of a picture book artist who quit his full-time job to look after stray animals. Episode 2 - Healing This episode shows how cats, dogs and horses can work as animal therapists and bring joy, comfort and medical benefits to a range of people including autistic children and the elderly. Episode 3 - Evolving This episode traces the stories of a few “community dogs” who stay on Ubin Island, showing how their lives differ from domestic dogs in the city. These Ubin dogs face changes both in their environment and due to the arrival of volunteers from mainland Singapore. Episode 4 - Surviving Told from the owners' perspectives, this episode shows how animals can lead different lives because of their different owners. While some pets are pampered and are remembered fondly after their demise, some are abused and abandoned.
