TV Drama

Program Name:Ilustrado

  • Introduction
Ilustrado tells the story of the Philippines’ national hero, Jose Rizal – from his childhood in the Philippines, to his life in Europe and his many loves. “Ilustrado” refers to the Filipino educated class during the Spanish colonial period in the late 19th century. The series goes beyond discussing the propaganda movement in Europe and tells the interesting, humanizing and less known vignettes about the Ilustrado experience. Created and produced by GMA News and Public Affairs, Ilustrado made history as the first TV drama series based on a true-to-life historical figure to air on Philippine primetime. Ilustrado proved that many of the lessons learned during the Spanish era are still relevant today. It inspires patriotism, love for family and the importance of education.
